Lage & Umgebung
Between Kurfürstendamm and Grunewald: Wilmersdorf is centrally located, full of culture and urban flair, yet close to nature, to Wannsee and Grunewald. Wilmersdorf is glamorous and cosmopolitan, dignified and with the discreet charm of old West Berlin.
Here you'll find the city's best-preserved old building ensembles today, where the splendor of the Wilhelminian era lives on.
Fechnerstraße has borne its name since 1947, commemorating the Wilmersdorf painter and writer Hanns Fechner. Prior to that, it was called Lauenburger Straße since the end of the 19th century; only during the Nazi era was it renamed Walter-Fischer-Straße.
The weekly market at Hohenzollernplatz invites you to stroll around. On Güntzelstraße, gourmet restaurants line up next to traditional Berlin pubs, cafes next to selected bookstores.
In the district, owner-operated clothing stores, galleries, delicatessens, and wine shops survive and thrive: because they cultivate their regular clientele, and that clientele remains loyal to them. For joggers, Volkspark Wilmersdorf is ideal: 2.5 kilometers long and green, just 200 meters from Fechnerstraße.
Speaking of parks: On sunny weekends, Preußenpark, a 10-minute walk from here, transforms into Germany's largest Thai street food market. A tradition from the 1990s, it is now so successful that some only know the green space as 'Thaipark'.
Equally popular: The Sommelier Festival 'Weinbrunnen' at Rüdesheimer Platz. You are gastronomically well catered for, whether for a quick bite or the full dinner program.
